SAPPHIRE Called the ‘blue conundrum’, the Sapphire was thought of as the ‘gem of the soul’ and ‘the gem of autumn’ by ancient scholars. Symbolising the blue of heaven, truth, chastity and contemplation, it is also the emblem of St. Andrew, patron saint of Scotland. A Sapphire was believed to attract divine favour for the wearer and help promote peace between enemies. It was also thought to protect the owner from envy, fraud and captivity. The Star Sapphire has long been considered a most powerful good luck charm because its three shafts of light were thought to represent faith, hope and destiny. |
